Abstract

After experiencing inflation for the previous three months, the city of Bandar Lampung experienced deflation this April. There are three expenditure groups that contribute to the formation of deflation in Bandar Lampung City, namely the foodstuffs group that contributes to deflation of 0.49 percent; clothing group by 0.08 percent; and the ready-made food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group at 0.02 percent. Meanwhile, housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel groups; and the health group made a positive contribution or restrained the deflation rate of 0.10 percent and 0.01 percent respectively. Meanwhile, the other two groups did not contribute this month. Price changes in the seven expenditure groups caused deflation in Bandar Lampung City of 0.48 percent.

Several commodities that dominantly contributed to deflation include garlic, rice, gold jewelry, ground coffee, tomatoes, kale, young dragon fruit, fresh tuna, cassava leaves and fresh mackerel.

Based on the calculation of the Consumer Price Index (CPI), deflation in Bandar Lampung City occurred due to a decline in the index in the foodstuffs group which fell 1.70 percent; clothing group fell 1.30 percent; and the prepared food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group fell 0.11 percent. Meanwhile, the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel groups experienced an increase in the index of 0.40 percent; health group rose 0.40 percent; the education, recreation and sports group rose 0.01 percent; and the transportation, communications and financial services group rose 0.01.

Deflation The city of Bandar Lampung was ranked 55th out of 66 cities where price developments were observed. Of the 66 cities, 38 cities experienced deflation and 28 cities experienced inflation. The largest deflation occurred in Maumere at 1.20 percent, while the lowest deflation occurred in Tanjung Pinang at 0.01 percent. The highest inflation was experienced by Padang Sidempuan at 0.81 percent, while the lowest inflation was experienced by Kendari at 0.01 percent.
